So who has the best husband then????

Right, much as I hate to admit defeat the task of bending over is becoming waaay to much for me these days with an ever expanding belly. The other day I was in serious need of a french manicure on my toes and I had full intentions of managing myself but alas it was just not to be...cue the entrance of my hubby!!! He very romantically offered to do it for me :). So I was thinking if he can work on satellites that go on rockets that are sent to space he soooooo can manage a french manicure....oh how right I was!!

OK so he did need a bit of direction but in fairness very little. What a man eh?! My sister wonders is there anything he actually cant do!

The finished job....he even did the super shiny top coat!

All flip flopped and ready to go..............now they are serious fancy toe nails even if I may say so myself :)

Another order for Nula's Kitchen....

Check out this gift box of goodies....would you not just love to be on the receiving end of this gift??!! As you can see it contained 10 mini cupcakes and a selection of hand made truffles...I did a mixture of plain and milk chocolate truffles with a selection of coatings such as almond flakes, coca, crushed walnut and chocolate shavings. Yummy!

Trying out a new recipie.

OK so you know I'm a sucker for a nice looking recipe so the other day when I was getting my hair done I spotted a recipe called "Raspberry sweethearts" in a mag......perfect cause I just LOVE raspberries and sure you know what I'm like for anything heart shaped!! I decided I just had to have the recipe so fortunately for me the page just fell out of the magazine and into my handbag!!! Apparently, according to the magazine they are as common as fairy cakes in Australia....I must ask Janey about that now, mind you she was my taster guinea pig and never mentioned anything!!

What I love about them....well apart from the fact that they look cute :) is that one of the ingredients is ground almonds and lately I have had a serious thing for anything almond flavoured...especially the almond croissants from Starbucks! The grated zest from a lemon is also part of the recipe and when you taste them you can just get a nice kick of lemon off them not too overbearing at all, I love that. The thing about them is that they MUST be served hot, otherwise you don't get the yummy warm raspberries just melting in your mouth. I actually think they would also be delicious served maybe with a dollop of cream....god I'm giving myself a serious goo for them now!!!! So to finish off you just give them a good dusting of icing sugar and your all set.

Cookie mad!

Well it seems to all about the birthdays these days....its just been my brothers earlier on this month. Of all of my goodies I bake these pecan cookies are his absolute favourite. They are quite yummy if i may say so myself :)

I made him a cookie jar too to house his cookies! You know its actually hard to decorate for a boy......they sooo don't feel the same way about glitter as we do!!

C for Caomhog, S for Seoladh

It was recently both of my little nieces birthdays so I have been busy creating some letters for their new room. One for each of them. They both love anything pretty so I maxed out on glitter, hearts, pinkness...you name it.

I painted on to the edges some glitter heart glue that I got in the states. I also added on some cute buttons i picked up in 'A Rubanesque' in town.

This is the S I did for Seoladh. I went with a bugs and butterfly theme. I'm just wondering how long before she pulls those little paper butterflies off?! I just love that pink ribbon....it the last bit I have and I also bought it in the States..oh well that just means I have gotta go back :)

Our new furry friends!

Would you just look at these ADORABLE day old chicks??! Arne't they the cutest thing ever? You would never believe how close they came to not making it......wait till I tell you their story....

Yesterday my sister Iseult went out to check on these little guys as she knew they were beginning to hatch the day before.....to her horror their mummy was lying on the ground dead as a dodo and the six little chicks were cold and scared and all alone in the world :( One of them wasn't even fully hatched out and just his little feet were sticking out of his shell. Well , Iseult, the biggest mother hen of us all broke away gently the shell and took the last guy out and together with his 5 brothers and sisters put them up her t shirt to keep them warm while she came up with a plan!!

She went looking for her Lizard incubator(yes she used to have lizards!)...... rooted out the heat lamps ....learned how to wire a plug off the Internet....wired it all up.....screwed in the lamps and way hey the little fellas had a new warm and cosy home! She even put in the thermometer from Beibhinns grobag to keep an eye on the temperature! Look closely at the last pic and you can see it! What a mummy eh?!

So today myself and Gareth went to visit them and of course I wanted to take some home!! I really don't think the little lady Betty Boo would be too happy with that tho! They also did themselves no favours by pooing on Gareths hand when he picked up one for a cuddle ha ha ha :) !

We are moving!!!

OK well maybe not...bit I wish!! Yesterday as I was out having a potter I came across this cute cute cutsie house...does it not just have Nula's House just written all over it?! Oh I would move tomorrow!! I put the proposal to Gareth who was just wondering where myself , himself, Betty and Baba Curran would fit??!! So I'm thinking......could I just have it in the garden and go on my holidays there????Cool huh? Lol :)

A Christening and a Birthday.

This weekend I was busy with two big orders from Nula's Kitchen and I also was working on a birthday pressie for my little niece. The first order was for a christening for a little girl called Eva....

...these days people seem to be going for cupcakes instead of the more traditional cakes for birthdays, weddings and obviously...christenings! I think they are way more fun and much cuter. Then I guess I am very biased! Anyway Eva's mom wanted a pink and white them, 16 to be personalised and nine extra cupcakes to be decorated whatever way I wanted...fun huh? I got a delivery of new edible glitter this week , I couldn't decided what colour to order so I orderes 5 different ones!! As it was a little girls christening I played around with the pink and white glitters and added some hearts, flowers and pretty things! The glitter doesn't seen to come out to great in the photos but if you look close you can see it on the Eva a bit better.

Part of another order I had this weekend was for birthday cupcakes. It was for a little girl called Keelan who loves everything pink and cute......this is the box that got delivered to her on the morning of her Birthday! She was delighted and even gave me a big hug to say thank you :)

Ok so now I think I'm nearly officially Cupcaked out! LOL! x

Graduation time :)

Its that time of year again thank god!!!......graduation means school holidays for me - yippee! This year I have such a lovely bunch of 6th years that I wanted to do something nice for them in our last Spanish class so I got busy baking. I had an idea to do little graduation cupcakes so I had a little think and a few packets of after eights, smarties and fizzy shoelaces later I had a plan.

Here are the little cuties...I just love them :). They were so easy to make that ill defo do them again. They must have lasted all of about 5 seconds and the kids had them devoured! I reckon that's always a good sign!

Sooo busy...

Well since I launched Nula's Kitchen I have just been so so busy! Sure you can see that from my lack of blogging!! This weekend alone I had an order for a BBQ (the photo above are the boxed goodies ready to go out), a Birthday party for a one year old little girl, a Farewell party and an End of Year school party..... phew!! Every order was different but as always cupcakes played a big part!! My mini ones were big in demand this weekend :)

I think the fine weather has given everybody the feeling of summer so I had a few orders for mini and full size meringues. These are some mini ones just out of the oven ........

...and here they are chocolate dipped and filled with cream, yum!

Here is another photo this time of an order of Mini pink cupcakes and a batch of Rocky Road ready for delivery. Well I did tell you I have been very busy!!

A selection of goodies

Here is how the treats looked when I laid them out in work the other day. I think everbody was happy campers after eating that lot!!

Smarties Rocky Road yum yum yum!!!!!!!!

My new cake server doesn't leave my side......or rather , the pavlovas side! He he he he :)

Thanks Melody :)

What a lucky lucky girl I am to have a friend like Melody :) Just look at what she gave me for a gift last week for no reason whatsoever!! She said she saw it and thought of me...how cute. I just adore it. Now I have no excuse not to bake a cake when someone is coming over, a cake server like this just HAS to be shown off!!! x

Operation cupcake!

Well as I was telling you I had a work lunch to bake for and I also had a birthday order for a dozen cupcakes so it was all about the cupcakes Thursday night in our house! This is a selection of the decorated cupcakes, I had great fun with the sprinkles, glitter dust, candy hearts, marshmallows and melted chocolate as you can see. Part of the birthday order was for seven of the cupcakes to spell out the name Georgia as it was a gift for her so I set about customising.....

....first of all I melted some white chocolate and set it in heart shaped mini silicone molds. Once they were fully set I melted some plain chocolate and pipped on the little letters to make up the name. Then all I had to do was place the little hearts onto the swirls and decorate them.

Here they are packed up and ready to go. To make up the dozen I also included some chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting and pink glitter dust and candy hearts, Vanilla frosting with gold stars, yellow frosting with coloured candy circles and vanilla frosting with pink heart sprinkles.

Its hard to see the detail close up when the cupcakes are packed together in a box so here are a few photos.

Well you just cant have pretty cupcakes in a not so pretty box so I bought a plain box and fancied it up myself with some cupcake stampers, glitter, a felt heart, a nice pink ribbon and a handmade gift tag :) Now , at last it was all ready for the birthday girl!!!

A busy few weeks

OK OK I know .......I have been brutal for blogging these last two weeks but in fairness I have been flat out and haven't have a minute. I had to bake for a Charity coffee morning for Alzheimer's , a work doo for 70 and then I had a cupcake order for a Birthday!Phew!!! Oh and to add to that we were working on nulaskitchen.com and launching it online........so am I forgiven yet??! So how about I show you exactly what was taking up all my time..........

One of the goodies I made for the charity event was bite size banoffies! I piped fresh cream over the banana and...

......added some grated chocolate and a chocolate baton. Then...

....popped them into some pink cute cake cases. Then for some cupcake making!

I just did a selection that way everybody is happy. Here is a close up of a few...

The Nula Cupcake hahaha!

A chocolate and pink frosting with pink glitter dust and a pink chocolate handmade heart.

Some of the cupcakes packed up and ready to go. Apparently all the goodies went down a treat and plenty of money was made for Alzheimer's :)
